Homosexuality was prevelant in japan as most during the fudeal society thought that love could only exsist between man and man and that women were just used to bear children in most cases. You could love a woman as a man but it was not a true love that you would have held if u loved a man as that was the purest form of love.

Actually there are a lot of gay and bisexual and lesbian characters in l5r. Hell alot of the Crane Clan is into incest as most marry the cousins and stuff to keep the lineage pure. I also do believe there are a lot of homosexual crane clan memebers in the storyline as well...maybe not a lot but a few.

Oddly enough the Crane Clan tends to have the highest number of actively heterosexual men in the entire empire. I mean between Yoshi, Hoturi, Toshimoko, and Kuwanan you've got a lot of blatantly hetero people. Throw onto the mix Noritoshi and Hideo and that's just icing on the cake.
