I was coming back from my brother's house (And sister-in-laws) when an idea occured to me. It'd require -zero- GM intervention and could be included as board ettiquette and people would see it and know what it meant...
Ok, we've all had scenes that have lasted beyond our capacity to stay with them. A ot of times they aren't scenes important enough to ghost the character.
We've also been on the other side of the scene. In the middle of good RP and someone posts <Back> but you want to roleplay with others but don't want to compromise the scene.
We've all been there, right?
So this is what I propose. On crowded threads like Main Court and the threads we are on right now? I propose a <flashback> sig to the theme.
The players involved would be responsible. Someone could say <I have to go for 3 hours <Flashback for later <character>>
If someone disappears for too long in a scene involving two or three people (As in someone fell off the net) it could be posted <Flashback for later <Character>>
Then when the person is online? The could post at the beginning of their body of text (Not in the subject) <flashnback<names>> and the others could continue the same way.
You could also open a flashback if you wanted to and let other people wander in if they weren't RPing at the time. But lets leave that for later.
So: Proposed and what do you all think?
Example:
Bayushi Paneki: I;ve got troops on the border and can't move them. You're going to have to do somehting better.
Hida Kisada : I'm not letting my guard down either.
Moto Chagati: You have me at an impasse it seems. We shall have to wrangle with our tongues!
Bayushi Paneki: There will be no tongue wrangling here.
Hida Kisda: I like tongue wrangling
BP: (Where'd Chagati go?)
HK (I donno. We'll wait for twenty)
BP: (Did you see my new card art)
HK: (Don't get me started)
BP(OK, been twenty minutes)
HK (Ok, lets turn it into a flashback so we can do other scenes._
BP (Agreed)
BP: <flashback>
Then When Moto Chagati gets back...
MC: <Flashback> I'm back! Seperate thread? Or continue here?
If they continue inthe main thread it indicated others may have heard them. And they could shorten it to
MC: <Flashback>
or whatever and treated like a subthread.
I ask that this might be implemented by the players or thought about by the GMs because I have seen people walk away from a scene in a thread after waiting hours and then recieveing IC repurcussions or the person who fell off was mad eto feel bad because they were left in the dirt.
Every scene is special and fun. If someone falls off r goes away? I see this as a perfect manner of addressing the fact while th other players continue to play in their limited time and come back later.
What do you think? _________________ Karma as well as shadows follow us all.
